Weird guitars are not really weird but they are just not that common.
Probably all of the guitars you will see on this page are taken out of production and to be honest this is really a shame.
There are several reasons for taking guitars out of production and probably the best reason is that they don't sell.
Right!
This is not only the fault of the company that made the guitar but also how conservative guitarists might be ..not trying a new concept.
Or the lack of trying to get to manage how to work with these guitars .

Hoyer MG 657 "flag" guitar
Hoyer was and still is a famous guitar company from Germany.
Seems they made different flag guitars in the 70ties .. this one is the french flag.
Ofcoarse the model of the guitar is linked to the "Bo Diddley" Gretsch guitar.
The tone and volume knobs are not original
The guitar is ok but not really very special only it's shape and the fact it was build
by Hoyer !
They used a good solid wood for the body .
(sold)

Line 6 Variax 700 acoustic
This is a marvelous guitar which in fact has 16 acoustic instruments "build in".
The controls : 3 slides and a turn/push knob are on the side.
First the "build in" instruments :
Parlor> based on 1941 Martin 5-17
Triple O>based on 1946 Martin OOO-28
Dread> based on1960 Martin D-21
Jumbo> based on 1954 Gibson J-45
C&W >based on 1951 Gibson SJ-200
Gypsy>based on 1932 Selmer Maccaferri
Jazz> based on 1951 D'Angelico New Yorker
Nylon>based on 1958 Manuel Velasquez
Folk 12 >based on1973 Guild F412 12 string
Blues 12>based on 1935 Stella Auditorium 12 string
Rnd neck> based on 1939 National Reso-Phonic
Square neck> based on 10937 Dobro
Banjo >based on 1925 Gibson Mastertone
Mando> based on Mandocello
Shamisen > based on Japanese shamisen
Sitar > based on Idian sitar
Ofcoarse they don't sound 100% like the real thing but they come close 90% !
But what is marvelous that you make your own tunings for guitar ( some are really not possible on guitar unless you reallly change the strings totally ) you can change the distance of the 'virtual microphone " to the guitar .
Did you ever try to to play a 12 string guitar ( acoustic) on stage with a microphone ?or have the luxery playing a 6string but really hearing a 12 string ? sooo many marvelous things and it works marvelous to make recordings .
The guitar was about $1200,- but there were for maybe $ 30.00,- instruments build in .
A favorite !

Casio MG-S10
If you checked my Electric Guitar page you probably saw this one already.
But why is it here on the "weird guitars " page ?
Well because it is a MIDI guitar and a guitar in that time far ahead .
Big companies as Yamaha and Roland were ( and still are ) experimenting with midi and guitars.
First an explanation .
Midi is a language which makes it possible to comunicate with an apparatus that also has midi.
Nowadays we could say connecting a phone or what ever with USB somehow is simulare .
But with this guitar I can plug it in to my synthesizers or computers and play on it .
For instance I can plug it in my Korg Wavestation ( see the page "Synths" ) and play on my guitar but you hear the Korg synthesizer .
I can play piano on this one !
Can you imagine playing on a guitar and hear the sound REAL quadraphonic ? (sitting in the middle of 4 loudspeakers and the sound going all around ?)
Yes I can do it here .
On the guitar beside the normal guitar controls are :
Synth/both/guitar > makes it possible to choose or the synth or the guitar or both!
Program change/Chromatic> change the switch ...pick a note on the guitar and you get another program on the synth or the synth will be played "chromatic " all the semi tones in between ( not really handy)
Octave > change to 3 octaves .
Mind you !!! you have to "learn" to play this guitar .
If you have selected a "string" sound on the synthesizer you have to think "strings" and not strum like a normal guitar.
A saxophone/flute/clarinet/or what ever "blown" instrument, can't play chords .
You have to play "clean" so do not play sloppy because it will be heard !
The guitar is best for people that play in a classical way ( so with the fingers of the plucking hand) or guitar pickers .

7 string Russian guitar
It is a guitar I got from a friend ( check the wooden-shoe-ukelele)
Nah have no idea what I will do with it as it really has to have some major repairs .
Cracks all over and the neck isn't set well
But anyway it is a weird guitar
*already gave it away to the guitar repair man
